Artown board members and the public gathered together at the Lear Theater Thursday morning for some big announcements regarding this year's Artown event.
Opening night will be free to the public. Mickey Hart, a percussionist for the Grateful Dead will perform some new material, and his greatest hits. Fans will have the chance to drum along with him later in the night.
Closing night will feature Maceo Parker. His music has a funk style.
Board members of Artown say this year has a record breaking 500 planned events, with more than half of them free to the public.
On July 15th, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band 50th Anniversary Celebration will be performing at the Grand Sierra. The tour has only made two other stops this year.
The Lear Theater will also be open for tours this summer.
