As Northern Nevada’s original No-Kill shelter, the focus of the SPCA remains on rescue and re-homing along with and increasing commitment to rehabilitating dogs and cats who need a little extra help. Many animals arrive at the SPCA scared and frightened because of neglect or abuse. These animals are individuals who deserve a second chance which is why we use behaviorists and trainers to work with them to help them become adoptable.
The Stanley James Walker Pet Care and Adoption Center houses up to 60 dogs and 100 cats at a time, and has an active Foster Care program as well. Every animal that adopted to the public is spayed or neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, and microchipped for permanent identification at the clinic.
