Community Gratitude Event Creates Art for Caughlin Fire Organizations

RENO, NV - "Neighbors came out and helped, law enforcement came out and helped, the fire department came out and helped, everyone contributed together and without that we wouldn't have saved the 10,000 lives that were saved," says Jennifer Risdon Palmer

Palmer met up with fellow event planner Kathy Parker two weeks ago with an idea: to bring community members together to show support for those who served with art, journaling and a photo collage.

"We have three different ways where people can show their gratitude. I started a piece right away and I started feeling, this is how i can show how this day affected me," says Kathy Parker.

Students from Caughlin Elementary who were also directly affected displayed their creative talents with thank you cards and a video.

Others painted on one of the hundred canvases that will be donated next month to organizations that assisted in the Caughlin fire.

"It does show support of the emergency responders in the community, but it also allows people to express their feelings and I think it helps give people a focus and some purpose and maybe some closure," says Reno Fire Battalion Chief Bob Knoll.
