RENO, NV—Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful announces the 21st annual Christmas Tree Recycling campaign for residents of the greater Reno-Sparks area – with a twist.
For the first time ever this program has received a grant from NV Energy to ensure the continuation of this vital community program.
People wanting to recycle their trees are asked to make a minimum donation of $3. Funds collected will support this recycling program and other valuable KTMB community beautification and education.
Tree collection will take place Monday December 26th through Monday, January 16th at three community drop-off sites including Bartley Ranch Regional Park, Rancho San Rafael Regional Parks, and Shadow Mountain Sports Complex in Sparks. Collection sites will be open daily from 9 am to 4:30 p.m. and staffed by community volunteers. For trees to be accepted, they must be clean and un-flocked.
No commercial drop-offs will be accepted.
“By recycling cut Christmas trees, residents help preserve landfill space, reduce illegal dumping and contribute to cleaner air as fewer green trees are burned,” said Christi Cakiroglu, Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful executive director. “We are very excited about NV Energy’s grant,” stated Cakiroglu “and we hope the $3 donation from each tree recycled goes a long way to matching NV Energy’s support for this program and community cleanup efforts.”
Recycled trees are chipped into mulch and used year-round in park, river and open space projects to prevent weed growth, soil erosion and promote beautification.
Christmas Tree Recycling is sponsored by NV Energy. It is coordinated by Keep Truckee Meadows
