RENO, Nev., The Nevada Humane Society hosted its annual Duck Race and Festival in Wingfield Park Sunday. Hundreds of people gathered at the park to enjoy an all day festival and of course to watch the ducks race down the Truckee.

The crowd cheered as a dump truck poured about 15,000 rubber ducks into the river. For five dollars, you could sponsor a duck.

Every duck purchased gave the owner a chance to win $400,00.
But it's not just the prizes that bring people to the event. It's all for a good cause.

Proceeds from the event went to the Nevada Humane Society.

"The funds raised today help support those animals," Bonney Brown, Executive Director for the Humane Society said.

There was also plenty of family entertainment before the ducks made their journey.

"We have all kinds of carnival games for kids, clowns, all kinds of activities, food trucks, so it's a fun day for the whole family," Brown said.

The Humane Society also had some dogs and cats available for adoption.

All the money raised will provide veterinary care, food, and other items the animals at the shelter need.
