This year the economy has been especially hard on Nevada's construction industry. Despite tough times of their own, the Nevada Contractors Board and the Nevada Landscapers association have teamed up to help struggling families in the Silver State.
They called it “Operation Green” and the goal to identify one family in Northern Nevada and one family in Southern Nevada who've hit hard times then help them out with a little “green”. In the Reno area the Ammerman family was selected to get a new backyard. Crews began breaking ground at 9:00 am, Friday. With two 8 year old autistic boys, a new back yard makes a world of difference to this family.
After surviving two heart attacks, Bob Ammerman has been reluctant undertake the home-improvement project alone. "The irrigation system alone would have put me six foot under,” he joked “that's the only dirt work I would be able to do." The Family was selected after an open call for applicants in desperate need of landscaping. Most of the work was done within a single day. Crews will return on Tuesday to lay sod. The joint organizations have also donated a new play set to the family, so the boys will have a safe environment to play.
