Reno, Nevada September, 19, 2011 - On Saturday, Nov. 19, members of the Reno community will lace up their green shoe laces and join St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® supporters in 80 communities across the country for the St. Jude Give Thanks. Walk. ™, an exciting and free family friendly event that brings teams and individuals together over the holidays to raise money to support the children of St. Jude.
More than 250 participants are expected to join together at Scheels Sporting Goods in Sparks to participate in this exciting noncompetitive 5K walk that serves as the official kick-off event for the national St. Jude Thanks and Giving campaign.
The inaugural Reno St. Jude Give thanks. Walk. is one of 80 events taking place in communities across the country on Nov. 19. Last year, in just its second year, more than 22,000 walkers participated in 63 events nationwide, raising more than $2.4 million. The walk is nationally sponsored by New York & Company, Brooks Brothers and AutoTrader.com. Local sponsors include Scheels Sporting Goods, Outlets at Legends, KOLO 8 News, Univision KREN Reno 27, Telefutura, The CW, La Tricolor 102.1 FM, 92.1 The Wolf, 105.7 KOZZ & ROCK 104.5.
Funds raised from the Reno event support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, one of the world's premier centers for the research and treatment of pediatric cancer and other catastrophic childhood diseases. St. Jude has treated children from all 50 states and around the world, and the hospital is a beacon of hope to children in communities everywhere. That is because St. Jude freely shares its research with the global medical community, helping children who never even visit St. Jude.
Check-in for the St. Jude Give thanks. Walk. begins at 10am at Scheels Spoting Goods. Registration is free, but all participants are encouraged to raise money for St. Jude by setting a personal fundraising goal and asking sponsors, friends and family members to make donations to support their efforts.
