It’s the first day of classes at UNR. It’s also the first day every student on campus will get a chance to take classes at the Davidson Mathematics and Science Center. The center is the first new building dedicated almost entirely to classroom space on the University of Nevada, Reno campus in nearly 40 years.

It took about 56 million dollars to construct the 120,000-square-foot state of the art building. A chunk of that money came from the state while the rest came from private donors.

One of the building’s highlights is a 464-seat auditorium. Freshman Nic Bullentino is excited about the new space, “I think it’s a pretty cool building. It smells new.” Jeff Thompson is the dean of the College of Science. He also has high hopes for the new center, “I think it will attract more funding. I think it will attract more faculty members and also students.”
