RENO, NV - Sheila, a neglected older dog that had a rough go of it on the streets, is getting the help she needs at Nevada Humane Society. Now NHS is seeking donations toward her care.
An animal control officer found Sheila wandering the streets; at first glance, she resembled a dirty mop. She was barely able to walk or see, and it looked like it had been a while since she had last known a kind touch or a good meal. After her matted coat was shaved off, her broken jaw, rotten teeth, and eye injury required veterinary care.
“Despite all that Sheila has been through, she is a lively and happy, loving little dog. Her sweet nature is evident in the way she wags her tail and crookedly smiles up at you,” said Art Westbrook, Dog Care Manager at Nevada Humane Society.
Sheila has had most of her teeth extracted and is recovering well. The veterinarians at Nevada Humane Society are still treating her eye in an attempt to save it. If it does not heal, she will need another surgery to remove the eye.
Nevada Humane Society is currently seeking donations toward Sheila’s care. The cost of her medical treatment is expected to exceed $3,000, putting a tremendous strain on shelter resources.
Nevada Humane Society is asking that animal lovers contribute to Sheila’s needs by making a donation to the shelter specifically for her care.
If you would like to help with the cost of medical treatment for Sheila or other injured pets at the shelter, please make a donation today to Nevada Humane Society’s Emily’s Fund for Injured Pets.
Contributions are tax-deductible and can be sent to Nevada Humane Society at 2825 Longley Lane, Reno, NV 89502 or called in by phone at 775-856-2000, ext. 324.

She was actually shaved shortly after County got her in and she looked like a Shih Tzu/Lhasa mix of some sort
Does anyone know her breed? She looks like a Yorkie but her ears are down. There was recently a story on another news program about a stolen dog which may fit her, sure would be nice to find her home.
