Every year, Nevada's Department of Wildlife stocks the river with about 65-thousand rainbow, cutthroat, and brown trout. It's all done for the benefit of anglers. According to Department of Wildlife Biologists, the stocked fish are actually sterilized before they are added to the river in order to protect species native to Nevada.
About 35-thousand rainbow trout were introduced to the Truckee in this first operation.
More will be added soon. They are only expected to reach a length of eight to ten inches before they are snagged by eager anglers. Those who have already purchased their Nevada fishing licenses can start dropping a line in the river right away.
