at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3001 North Fifth Street, in Elko.
Preparations for the 5th Annual Elko Regional Interfaith Christmas Crèche Exhibit are well underway. The exhibit will be held Thursday, December 3 through Sunday, December 6, 2009 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3001 North Fifth Street, in Elko. Highlighting this year’s exhibit will be many handcrafted nativity-themed quilts and wall hangings, along with the three 1940-era murals and large collection of Madonna and Child artwork that have become a tradition at the exhibit. A big part of the Exhibit is the live musical performances. Each year church congregations as well as school and community groups perform Christmas music. New this year will be music in Spanish, which will occur Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. The schedule of musical performances can found at www.elkocreche.org. Along with the music, a live Christmas story re-enactment is also a part of the exhibit. The short Christmas Re-enactment will be performed several times Thursday and Friday evenings beginning at 5:00 p.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. The church hosts the exhibit, however individuals provide all of the nativities. The Crèche exhibit welcomes all those who wish to share their nativity. In 2007, 325 nativities were displayed and last year, there were 550. This celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ is a great for the whole family. It is open from 11 a.m. through 8 p.m. each day and is free to attend.
Anyone wishing to volunteer with the event or display his or her nativities may contact James Cooper at 778-3535 or Shelley Rampton at 738-4142. More information can also be found at www.elkocreche.org
