Veterans Day Parade in Reno

Reno will celebrate the Veterans Day holiday on Wednesday, November 11, 2009. Everyone is invited to attend. The parade is free to the public.

This year’s parade is dedicated by the City of Reno to Colonel Alex Woods, Director of WCSD JROTC and his passion to teach all cadets to always do your duty with honesty, teamwork and loyalty – completely.

The parade begins 11 a.m. The parade route will be along Virginia Street starting at Court Street and traveling north to 5th Street. The parade will stop at the Truckee River for a wreath dropping ceremony in remembrance of fallen soldiers.

Thanksgiving Food Drive

The Department of Business & Industry (B&I) is holding a Thanksgiving food drive beginning on Monday, November 9, to help needy families during the Thanksgiving holiday.

Canned and boxed food is being collected.

Donations will be accepted during business hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, starting Monday, November 9, through Friday, November 20, 2009. To distribute the donated items, B&I is partnering with HELP of Southern Nevada (HELP) in the south and Friends in Service Helping (FISH) in the north. The food collected will be distributed by HELP and FISH to struggling Nevadans during Thanksgiving week.

As you may recall, Applebee's launched a pilot program last year on
Veterans Day offering free entrees to military service personnel and
Veterans. Because the response was so overwhelmingly positive,
Applebee's is extending the invitation throughout the country this
Year.

All U.S. Veterans and active duty military with proof of current or
former military service will eat free at all Applebee's nationwide on
Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009.

Proof of service includes: U.S. Uniform Services Identification Card,
U.S. Uniform Services Retired Identification Card, Current Leave and
Earnings Statement, Veterans Organization Card, photograph in uniform

There is a rare opportunity coming this October for project managers in Northern Nevada who want to achieve international certification as either a Project Management Professional (PMP®) or a Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM®). Twice a year the Northern Nevada Chapter of the Project Management Institute provides the only PMP Prep course in Northern Nevada that is taught by more than ten local PMPs.
