FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - Federal investigators say a small plane that crashed near a housing development west of Fresno, killing the pilot, may have been stolen.
Keith Holloway, a spokesman with the National Transportation Safety Board, told the Fresno Bee the Cessna 172 was not signed out for and that the pilot may have been unlicensed.
The plane crashed into a canal area just after 4 p.m. Sunday, severing power lines on its way down. The name of the pilot, the lone occupant, is being withheld.
The area is between Chandler Airport and Sierra Sky park.
The plane crashed about a quarter-mile from a new housing development.
