PLEASANTON, Calif. (AP) - A man and a woman were arrested after leading police on a wild chase in Pleasanton in which they crashed a stolen car through train-track crossing arms, narrowly missed getting hit by a freight train barreling toward them, and eventually spun out on the side of the road, police said.

A driver called 911 around noon Saturday reporting a man with a handgun near a drug store, said police Lt. Bob Lyness.

When police arrived, the suspects - Ronald Edward Duncan, 35, of Pleasanton and Kristal Ann Delong, 19, of Castro Valley - sped away
in a 1999 white Dodge Intrepid that had been reported stolen, Lyness said.

As they raced toward a nearby railroad crossing, an oncoming freight train triggered the crossing arms to descend. The stolen car plowed through the barriers, barely missing getting hit by the train.

Officers on the other side of the tracks picked up the chase.

The car hit speeds of up to 85 mph, and the suspects allegedly threw a .40-caliber automatic pistol and a BB gun out the window before Duncan lost control of the vehicle.

Duncan was arrested on suspicion of recklessly evading police, auto theft, and various gun, burglary and parole violation charges.

Delong was arrested on gun and burglary charges.
