BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) - Berkeley police have arrested a 38-year-old man in the slaying of a woman who was found shot to death in a popular park.
Police spokesman Andrew Frankel says Curtis Martin III of Oakland was taken into custody Friday afternoon. The unidentified victim's body was found by an officer next to a pond in Aquatic Park around 4 a.m. Friday.
Frankel says she appeared to have been shot twice.
Police are not saying what led them to suspect Martin and have not disclosed a possible motive for the killing.
The slaying is the fifth in Berkeley this year.
Frankel says Aquatic Park is a popular recreation spot, but also is known for drug deals and prostitution at night.
