SAN RAFAEL, Calif. (AP) - A 47-year-old mother of eight remains behind bars after admitting to embezzling from an elderly Marin County couple.

Prosecutors say as part of a plea deal, Jane Macam McClellan pleaded guilty to a single count of embezzlement Wednesday.

The Marin County District Attorney's Office had originally accused McClellan of stealing nearly $100,000 from a 98-year-old woman and her 92-year-old husband while she worked as an in-home caregiver for the couple.

Her defense attorney, Anthony Lowenstein, claims his client took around $7,000. Lowenstein claims that his client intended to repay the money.

McClellan, who also uses the last name of Deleon, is facing up to four years in prison when she's sentenced Dec. 8.

Her defense attorney says he will seek probation.
