WATSONVILLE, Calif. (AP) - Hundreds of people are being evacuated from the Santa Cruz Mountains north of Watsonville because of a wildfire that broke out overnight.
CalFire says the fire that started at about 3 a.m. Sunday had burned about 600 acres by midmorning. The cause has not yet been determined.
The blaze is burning near an area where a wildfire last year destroyed 29 homes and threatened the Mount Madonna retreat center.
More than 200 firefighters are on the scene.
