SANTA ROSA, Calif. (AP) - Authorities are still looking for the rightful owner of $10,000 found alongside a Sonoma County highway.

Sheriff's Capt. Matt McCaffrey said on June 5 an off-duty prison guard spotted some of the cash blowing along the shoulder of Highway 101 near the Mendocino County line. He turned in about $5,000 and deputies later recovered another $5,000 or so.

McCaffrey says a few people have tried to claim the cash without
success. Police are withholding details about how the money was
bundled and in what denominations to help identify the owner.

The owner has two months left to claim the money or it will be split between the prison guard and the county.

Sonoma County is located 50 miles north of San Francisco.
