RENO, Nev. (AP) - Fire officials say a wilderness blaze along the Nevada-Idaho line is now 40 percent contained.

Firefighters were able to maintain containment lines Sunday despite erratic winds.

The fire has burned roughly 84 square miles since it was sparked by lightning Aug. 8 in a wilderness area of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. It was allowed to burn unchecked for about two weeks until it began to spread near the tiny outposts of Jarbidge and Murphy Hot Springs.

Fire managers say a shift in the wind and cooler temperatures - along with a chance of light snow at the higher elevations - will some firefighters to be released in coming days.
