REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (AP) - San Mateo County authorities say they have several leads as they look for a convicted felon who was released from jail because of a clerical error.

A San Mateo County Sheriff's Office spokesman describes the leads as "promising" in the search for Alfredo Ortiz.

The 28-year-old Ortiz has been on the loose since being convicted July 25 of felony domestic violence for an attack on his girlfriend in July of last year.

He was supposed to be taken into custody upon conviction, but
instead was allowed to post bail and was released.

Authorities say Ortiz was facing nine years in prison on the domestic violence charge.
