OROVILLE, Calif. (AP) - Firefighters are continuing to battle a wildfire in Butte County which they hope to have contained by Tuesday night.

Fire officials are aiming to have the 1,000-acre blaze surrounded by Tuesday night, but by morning the fire was only about 30 percent contained. People living between the middle and southern forks of the Feather River, which feeds into Lake Oroville, were told to evacuate.

The fire began Sunday. It destroyed one home and damaged a barn.

A 230-acre fire burning in the Inyo National Forest north of Mammoth Lakes was 5 percent contained Tuesday morning. Fire officials say 295 firefighters, five air tankers and six helicopters are streaming into the region. No evacuations have been ordered.

Fire officials worry a new storm front moving into California Tuesday and Wednesday will make firefighting harder and spark new wildfires.
