SAN DIEGO (AP) - Police have identified a man who was shot and
killed after fighting with officers following his rescue from San Diego Bay.

Harbor Police Lt. John Forsythe says Steven Paul Hirschfield of Los Angeles was found in the water last night by two officers responding to reports that a man fell from a party cruise with some 900 passengers aboard.

He says the 37-year-old got onto the rescue vessel and began to
attack the officers.

Hirschfield took one officer's stun gun and beat him in the face with it. When Hirschfield tried to take the officer's handgun, the other officer shot him in the chest.

Forsythe says Hirschfield was taken to shore where paramedics
pronounced him dead. The injured officer was treated for face and
leg injuries.
