LOS ANGELES (AP) - At least four people have been killed after the car they were traveling in crashed into a pillar on the Interstate-10 Freeway and burst into flames. California Highway Patrol has closed three westbound lanes of the freeway.
Los Angeles County Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey says
firefighters responding to the scene Sunday morning on the westbound Santa Monica Freeway at Western Avenue found a mid-sized sedan fully engulfed in flames.
Humphrey says firefighters were able to identify and remove the remains of four people, but there may possibly be more.
The car had apparently careened off the highway and crashed into
a concrete pillar supporting the Western Avenue overpass. No other
vehicle was involved.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze in five minutes.
