BAKER, Calif. (AP) - A Carson man has died after losing control of his off-road vehicle on a sand dune near Death Valley.

The San Bernardino County coroner's office says 22-year-old Eberardo Gutierrez was on a Fourth of July ride at Dumont Dunes when he lost control of his all-terrain vehicle and was thrown.

The crash occurred at about 4:45 p.m. Friday and he was pronounced dead about an hour later.

A coroner's statement Saturday says Gutierrez was wearing a helmet.

Dumont Dunes is a designated off-road area about 170 miles northeast of Los Angeles.
