Rumors are now swirling around the globe that famed aviator Steve Fossett may have hoaxed the world.

A British newspaper, the Daily Telegraph has reported that Fossett may have been leading a double life, after having affair's with two other women and used his reported "final" flight to make the world belive he had died in a tragic plane crash.

The famed aviator vanished in September of 2007 whilst on a recon flight spotting possible flat terrain for his land speed record attempt.

He departed from a private area field, near Minden, Nevada, owned by his friend Barron Hilton.

After a lenthly and costly search and rescue attempt by the U.S. Civil Air Patrol, U.S. Air Force and civilian searchers throughout the Seirra Nevada, with no results, Fossett was claimed dead.

New findings from a private investigation led by the British based insurance firm, Lloyd's of London provide new information that Fossett had in fact had two affair's with mistresses and that the plane he was reportedly flying on the day he vanished could very easily be dismantled and hidden in a short space of time.

This leads me to the question: Did Aviator Steve Fossett Fake His Death?

That is an interesting theory, much like the theories developed after aviatrix Amelia Earhart disappeared in 1937. First, the plane was not experimental, and was on the FAA Civil Registry. As such, it was required to carry an automatically activated Emergency Locator Transmitter. This device would guide rescuers to the wreckage, if it functioned as it should. The FAA also records RADAR signals which are displayed on their screens. These have been utilized to locate downed aircraft, or at least narrow-down the area to be searched. If ALL of these measures were employed, then it's likely his aircraft crashed in inaccessible, difficult to search terrain. If THAT eventuality was explored, and no one located the wreckage, then there is the possibility (remote...) that Mr. Fossett fabricated the accident, for whatever reason.

Wouldn't it have made sense to fake it AFTER he set the world speed record (or what ever it was) that was planned for him? Makes no sense that he faked his death.

Dan of Reno calls Fossett a Republican, and a "conservative wacko." Fifty-six percent of the $10,285 in contributions by Fossett or his exchange-membership-rental companies in the last thirty years to either political party has been to Democrat candidates (e.g., B.J. Clinton in '92 & '95, Lieberman in 2003, Daschle of SD, '96, Democrats in Illinois and Colorado), except for one $500 contribution in '84 to the Republican Party, as well as to Presser of SD in '95, and Steve Forbes in '99). Steve Fossett is (or as some imagine, "was") not particularly conservative politically.

the rumor that Elvis is alive is out there also, we just hate to loose our public figures and will do what we can to keep them close and here on earth. I hope for his family that is the case, it would be nice.

I am only glad that Lloyd's are trying to do their job properly.

But what if he didn't do all these things that everyone is claiming? Have you thought about all the people in his family that are grieving for him? These kind of comments can hurt people. Maybe we should think about that before we speculate on the negative things. It would make the world a better place don't you think?

Quite appaling the lack of intelligence in analyzing this case of steve fossett and his disappearance and subsequent death from my perspecive it was faulty intel and without proper intel they search the wrong area, and have been doing this ever since. just applying a little psychology to this search and listening to what was discussed the evening prior would certainly would have sent the search in a total opposite direction and maybe then Steve would have been found and possibly alive this is not difficult at all to figure out for a better search location, and where steve crashed and why Steve was a mission oriented person, not a joy rider

all I can say is if all these rumors are, just that, rumors , then can you imagine how his wife must be feeling? It might be a good idea to start thinking about others instead of trying to bring up maybes that will hurt others and their families!

Isn't it strange that in the 2 plane crashes Fossett's and the one just recently, that neither of the experienced pilots filed a flight plan?

He's not in the Nevada Desert, He's in the Sierras between Mono Lake and Yosemite Wilderness. He took a Right Turn
  • by Sherry Location: Reno, NV on Jul 30, 2008 at 01:56 PM
He didn't go flying over the NV Desert, but took a right into the (Yosemite) Wilderness. He got caught in a "Sierra Wave", A wind turbuance between 2 steep mountains, brings a plane down (like the one he was flying) at about 100 ft per second, with no chance of recovery, splat. Or into Lake Mono.... and if he was having affairs...I wag my finger at you Mr. Fossett

You could easily put Fosset's unlikely disappearance in league with Kenneth Lay's bizarre and swift passing to avoid prosecution. When you play in the league these guys did, you can get anything done. I told my friends and relatives that both Fossett and Lay had the need to disappear though for very different reasons!!

If this is true, the mystery will be solved via a money trail. Anyone who is used to having $ millions would not create such a hoax without squirreling away a significant amount of cash that he could gain access to under a new identity.

It's obvious.......Fossett has changed his appearance with a little surgery, and now owns a bar in Key West. He lives in the flat above the bar with his gay lover, D.B. Cooper.

I've always thought this "disappearance" was strange. He's an accomplished flyer, there were no weather problems that day, the plane was never found after exhaustive searches. And, most importantly, his "widow" was very quick to get him declared dead. It's quite possible he disappeared to get away from his wife, who would have been in on the whole thing, and by the way she was handsomely rewarded after he was declared dead. It all seems so plausible to me. I think there should be an investigation.
