Sometimes sports are just not relevant! That's something OC Register writer Mark Whicker need to learn quickly. Whicker got the idea to write a story about all of the sports Jaycee Lee Dugard missed during the years she was kidnapped, raped and held captive by Phillip Garrido. Whicker wrote that "it doesn't sound like Jaycee got to see a sports page." He then listed a number of events that happened during her captivity. But the worst part was the end. Whicker wrote "And Ballplayers, who always invent the slang no matter what ESPN would have you believe, came up with an expression for a home run that you might appreciate. Congratulations, Jaycee. You left the yard." WOW! Whicker, you "dropped the ball." You "swung and missed" on that one. You really "struck out." I know he was trying to be creative in writing this article, but in the end he was just an inconsiderate jerk. Jaycee missed out on family and friends, school and life. Not only should Whicker be ashamed of his story, but so should his editor. How did this piece ever make it to publication? Somebody should have known better. |
