It's been exactly one month since David Carter took over the Wolf Pack basketball program.....a team that doesn't look anything like the one he inherited.  It's been a REALLY busy month.

First - Mark McLaughlin, one of the highest rated recruits to ever sign with the Wolf Pack, wants out of his letter-of-intent.  He is granted his wish.  McLaughlin later signs with Baylor of the Big XII.

Second - Ayharo Phillips is arrested for carrying a gun on campus.  Reports then surface that Phillips got the gun from the Pack's star point guard. ( I should say that Armon Johnson is not in any trouble.  He is also a very good kid.)  Phillips is eventually kicked off the team.

Third - Malik Cooke wants out.  Cooke claims to be motivated by both family health concerns and a financial hardship.  Cooke was one of Nevada's starters last season and arguably their most consistent player.

Fourth - Some media reports surface that WAC Freshman of the Year Luke Babbitt wants to transfer as well.  Those reports are later proved false.  Carter was in Australia (recruiting) at the time.  He lands (back in Reno) to a mountain of concerns.

Fifth - Incoming recruit Steven Bjornstad wants to be released from his letter-of-intent.  Bjornstad claims that the "gun incident" has scared both he and his family out of their commitment.  At last check, Bjornstad would rather sit out a year, or go to a junior college, than suit up for the Wolf Pack.

WOW!  It's been all of 30 days on the job!  Carter certainly is in for some work.  But I, for one, am squarely behind him.  Coach Carter is perhaps the nicest guy I have ever met.  He has a big heart and really cares about his players.  He's going to need your support to get this program back on track.

It won't take much, except for patience.  Something Wolf Pack fans (myself included) are sometime reluctant to give.  The Wolf Pack will still have the best starting five in the WAC next season.  Give them your support, and bare with Coach Carter.  He'll need the fans support to keep this program at the top of the WAC.

Good luck Coach!  We're all counting on you!
