Like a fish to a sparkling lure, it was the first thing to grab my attention while visiting home for the holidays. The sleek and shiny High Definition TV now in my parent’s living room nearly covers an entire wall. OK... maybe it's just a portion of the wall between the fireplace and some built-in shelving, but that's not the point. My father like so many people had taken advantage of incentives, sales and the impending digital transition to justify owning such a beautiful piece of technology. Stashed awkwardly in the foyer is the ousted set. Also a big screen, but not as big. It is at least two feet deep, as tall as I am, and magnificently heavy. The television that had once been their pride and joy was now banished, no longer enjoying the attention of the entire family. "What are you going to do with that?" I asked my dad. "I don’t know," he said "it’s been there for 6 weeks now and if I don’t do something soon, your mother’s going to kill me." We discussed what it would take to sell it or toss it. Just moving it would take at least 3 grown men. Unfortunately before we found an acceptable solution, dinner was ready and the old TV was once again forgotten. Good news for Northern Nevadans who have an extra TV... or cell phone, stereo, computer, printer, etc. Those items are toxic in a landfill, and you will be charged an environmental impact fee to throw them away. But you can get rid of your unwanted electronics for free, while helping the community. The recycling event will be held at the Reno Livestock Events Center on January 31st, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Thank you Kendra for the valuable information. Do you know if this will be an ongoing thing since not all of us have purchased the new fancy TVs and sill need to get rid of what we have in the future? I do have computer monitors I'll be able to do now which is great since I've been storing them for over 3 years now. Posted by: Mary Ann Location: California Kendra thank you so much for the information I have the same problem and with this information I can properly resolve my dilemma, thank you for the information and keep up the good work. |
