Puppies and kittens and rabbits, oh my! The Nevada Humane Society is opening up a new off-site adoption center. Adopting animals, a cause very important to me, is now even easier, thanks to the new facility. It opened on Saturday, November 1st. Events kicked off the opening all weekend, and now, thanks to a grant from the Helen Close Foundation, NHS will keep the facility open as part of a three month pilot project. It'll help find many more new homes for the homeless animals in our community by giving them greater exposure. The pet adoption fees are typically $50 for cats and dogs, but specials are also offered, so be sure to call and ask, or better yet, stop by and check us out! Regardless, these are great bargains since all pets for adoption have already been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. NHS has a variety of personalities, breeds, sizes and colors from which to choose from. "With the tough time we are facing, more and more pets are being abandoned. They need and deserve our help more than ever before," said Denise Stevens, Nevada Humane Society's Operations Director.
“We want to give our animals the best chance possible of finding new, loving homes. We believe this new adoption center will provide more exposure for specific animals and the organization, as a whole,” said Community Programs Director, Diane Blankenburg. The new center is located in the Sierra Marketplace on the southeast corner of Moana Ln. and S. Virginia St., next to the Atlantis Casino, at 3652 S. Virginia St., Unit C-3. It will be open seven days a week for adoptions, from 12:00 noon to 6:00 pm.
The grant covers roughly 60% of the needed funding for this project so additional donations are still needed to help cover the costs of rent, staffing, and supplies. Please send a tax-deductible gift to Nevada Humane Society, 2825 Longley Lane, Ste B, Reno, NV 89502 or call 775-379-9433 for more information.
