Dog Houses are no longer just for the dogs. Tom Jacobs, Executive Director of the SPCA of Northern Nevada, is moving in to his very own custom built dog house, Thursday, October 30th. It's even gone public, sitting in front of the Wal-Mart on Kietzke Lane in Reno.

Jacobs and the SPCA are doing this to promote the need to spay and neuter pets. He'll remain in the dog house 24 hours a day for several days, until $25,000 is raised to help fund the SPCA’s Spay/Neuter Incentive Program.

“With those funds we can help over 650 low-income families get their pets altered” Jacobs said. “In these tough times any assistance we can provide to needy families will go a long way in helping us to deal with the pet overpopulation problem. That in turn will bring us closer our goal of a no-kill community by eliminating the need to euthanize animals.”

Want to help? You can support the effort by visiting Jacobs in front of the Wal-Mart store on Kietzke Lane, by calling 324-7791 or on-line at www.spcanevada.org.

You can even take home a pet of your own if you like! Adoptable animals from the SPCA will be at the site everyday from Noon to 5pm.

The mission of the SPCA of Northern Nevada is to end euthanasia as a means of pet overpopulation control in Washoe County. The adoption center philosophy is that once an animal is accepted at the shelter, he or she is cared for until a new loving home is found.
