As I mentioned, the best part of this job is the opportunity to see unusual things and meet interesting people.
This is Jay Hubbard, Auto Shop Supervisor at the National Automobile Museum. We checked in with him while he was fine tuning the Thomas Flyer for exhibit celebrating 100 years since the car won a race around the world. The car is amazing so is everyone at the museum. Check it out for yourself!

This is KOLO 8 Photographer Ray.... If he'd taken these pictures, they'd probably be in focus. All kidding aside, he's a great shooter with a great eye for shots that tell the story.

Jay says the headlamps were fueled by gas, but didn't put off much light. You can see the burner inside of the lamp here.

All of the wear & tear you see is intentional. When Bill Harrah owned the museum he wanted the Thomas Flyer to look just as it did when it finished the race.

Jay says these wheels have a very short lifespan because they are made of natural rubber.

Who wouldn't feel lucky to have this once in a lifetime experience. Still, I'll stick with my car. I kind of like having a roof & a heater. Can you imagine travelling around the world in this during the winter? Brrrrrrrrr!
