College hoops needs an adjustment!  The current system sends the best high school basketball stars to college for one year, then sees them bolt for the NBA.  This changes the landscape of basketball nationally.....teams go from Top 5 to unranked in one year.  As I'm writing this, three of last year's Final Four will probably not even make the NCAA Tournament.

The NBA must play ball in order to fix the system.  Commissioner David Stern is a big proponent of high school kids going to college.  He's the one who spearheaded the rule that players must be one year removed from high school before they are eligible to play in the NBA.  But when he talks, it's clear he would prefer that players be even OLDER before joining the NBA.

The solution is to adopt the baseball system.  In baseball, players can be drafted right out of high school.  Those who are drafted are sent to a myriad of minor leagues (rookie league, advanced-rookie league, A ball, AA, AAA etc.)  Those who sign to play in college cannot sign with a major league team for three seasons.  A college baseball player is not eligible to be drafted again until after his junior year.

If the NBA agreed to this deal, the best players would be drafted out of high school (likely no more than 2-3 per year - at most!) Those players could then go play in the D-League to help them mature both physically and emotionally.  The rest would not be eligible to play until after their third year at college (or they could go to Europe.)

This would make college hoops much better than it is now.  The main concern you hear from college legends (like Coach K and Bobby Knight) is that these "one-and-done" basketball players don't even go to class the second semester.  They basically attend school for about four months.  It's a sham the way it is now.

Could you imagine how much better the Wolf Pack would have been last year with JaVale McGee?  Under this proposal, he would have still been at Nevada until the end of last season.

The NBA and the NCAA need to come together to make both of their sports better for everyone involved....especially the fans!
