First off, let me congratulate the BCS. They finally got it RIGHT. For the first time ever, ALL of the Top 10 ranked teams are going to BCS bowl games. It's about time they didn't "snub" a mid-major team. Last season, an undefeated Boise State was left out altogether. This time, not only is Boise in....but so are all the undefeated teams. Now for the WRONG! The BCS bowl game matchups are awful! The Fiesta Bowl will match undefeated TCU against undefeated Boise State. Why match the two mid-major teams against each other? Why not split that matchup so the two teams can take on the big boys? Everyone loves an underdog. I'd rather see Boise State against a Florida. I'd rather see TCU take on an undefeated Cincinnati. Instead we get a rematch of the Poinsettia Bowl (Boise and TCU faced off last season in the Poinsettia Bowl.) The great thing about college sports is watching an underdog knock off a goliath. It's no secret why the 2007 Fiesta Bowl is widely regarded as one of the best games ever. Sure, the "hook-and-ladder" and "statue of liberty" plays were spectacular, but what made it really special is that Boise State did it against Oklahoma. I doubt that game would be so revered if the Broncos had done it against a Mountain West team. I've been totally against the BCS ever since it began. I want a playoff. I want to see Boise or TCU against Texas or Alabama. Instead we get another Poinsettia Bowl. Broncos fans, Horned Frog fans....and fans everywhere have once again been let down by the "system." |
