First off, I do not agree with LeGarrette Blount sucker-punching anyone. He got what he deserved, the end of a promising season and the loss of (potentially) millions of dollars in NFL earnings. He acted like a punk, and he does not deserve to play this season. But Boise's Byron Hout also showed that he's a punk as well. Let's set the scene.....(then) 14th ranked Boise State opens up the season with a 19-8 win over (then)16th ranked Oregon. A big win for the Broncos, and a jump-start for their BCS hopes. As the two teams walked off the field, Hout pushed Blount....then proceeded to talk some smack. Blount retaliated with the "punch heard round the world." Hout needs to learn how to win with class. Boise State has the BEST home winning percentage of ANY team in D-I football since 2000 (57-2 overall.) They were favored to win the game, and they did. Why the smack talk? Boise should suspend Hout for at least one game for "instigating" the confrontation. Blount is clearly a head-case, but let's not forget that Hout is the one that made contact first. I don't think he deserved to be punched, but when I really think about it, it serves him right. Boise State's head coach Chris Peterson is a good man and a great coach. But he dropped the ball on this one. He needs to use Hout as an example about how to act like a man. This, by the way, also came on a night that college football unveiled a new sportsmanship initiative. Both teams met before the game for handshakes. Peterson should sit Hout down and explain what sportsmanship really means. Maybe getting sucker-punched will make Hout think the next time he wants to be a punk. Boise State wins all the time, he should be use to it. He should learn that, although it does matter whether you win or lose in college football.....it's more important how you play the game. |
