It’s ironic that I should be starting this on the 23^rd anniversary of my being hired at KOLO-TV. I had just returned from a tour in Central America with the National Guard Bureau, and was hired right off the train by news director, Kirk Frosdick, who I worked with at Channel 2 back in 1984-85. (The lucky old dog is retired now.)

The plan was that I would learn to shoot a camera, and would cover rural Nevada as a one man band. That’s how all this started. 23 years later at the ripe old age of 64, I’m still doing it, and am convinced I have the best job in television.

From the time I started back in 1986, I believe I’ve driven and flown more than a half million miles throughout the entire world reporting stories that reflect the best of Nevada. The stories have taken me to places like Korea, Kosovo, Australia, Germany, Hawaii, Canada, Alaska, and a host of other states. In that time I’ve worn out five news trucks and three cameras.

My favorite places have been right here in our own backyard, the hinterland of rural Nevada. I like to refer to it as places where the air hasn’t been used yet. From the Shell Creek Range in Eastern Nevada, to the Sierra on the California-Nevada border, I’ve looked into the very soul of Nevada and have learned this is one of the most unique places on earth.

First and foremost, you need to know I am not a trained journalist or a learned historian. I’m simply a story teller with a nose for history. And the purpose of this blog is not to retell stories you might have seen on TV, but to tell you about the people and places I’ve visited inside the stories while counting white lines along the highway.
