- Violent Time in Northern Nevada - 1 Comments Posted
The past few weeks it seems as though violent crime has dominated news in the Reno-area. There were two stabbings and a shooting on Wednesday the seventh alone. Now police say a woman found dead in her car that same day was murdered. A standoff with a fugitive kept police busy for hours on Tuesday. Remains of a missing man, who authorities believe was murdered, were discovered in a remote part of Washoe County -- And all this follows a tragic shooting at a Halloween party that left three dead. I keep telling everyone I can at KOLO Eight about my new favorite reality TV show, "Making News: Texas Style." (Check out the Web site: http://www.tvguide.com/tvshows/making-news-texas/288348). I think it's a relatively new program that airs on the TV Guide network. The premise of the show is simple -- cameras follow around the news team at an Odessa, TX TV station. You get to see a few newbie reporters learning the ropes and landing the story. (Read Blog)
- Good Luck Firefighters - Post Your Comments!
The video of the huge orange flames and destruction left by the SoCal fires is truly shocking. We're all watching the coverage on CNN tonight (Monday) in the newsroom, and planning our own coverage for the 11 o'clock news. Watching the news, the fire seems to be swirling and behaving in an erratic, possibly unpredictable way. Mai remarked that the shots of the inferno look almost like a volcano. I thought it would be a long time before another fire would even approach the massive devastation left by the Angora Fire at Lake Tahoe. The wildfire claimed 254 homes. Now it's like Angora all over again. (Read Blog)

When KOLO management first announced all the reporters will be writing blogs, I had some reservations. For days I kept thinking: "What can I write about on my blog?" I've been writing the news for years, but blogs are different. Blogs are personal, whereas news is objective. Blogs tend to have a lot of opinions, while news reports contain facts or balanced arguments. (Read Blog)
