More than 78,000 people have voted early, breaking the previous early voting record, according to Washoe County Registrar of Voters Dan Burk. The previous record was about 42,000 early votes cast, according to a news release from the county. That record was set in 2006. Burk initially predicted about 25 percent of voters would turn out early, or 55,000. Burk now estimates about 95,000 will vote early. Early and absentee voting could account for nearly 50 percent voter turnout, Burk estimates -- that could significantly reduce the wait time at polling places on election day. Washoe County also reports 10,145 people cast early votes on Wednesday, Oct. 29 alone -- a single day record. The last day to cast an early ballot is Friday, Oct. 31.
