As I prepare for my final sportscast that wraps up my four-year stint at KOLO-8, my brain flashes forward through all of the fun times: a story on a 100-year-old bowler; a double-amputee, gold medalist skier who wasn't supposed to live past a few weeks; and of course, Nevada's monumental upset win over Boise State. There are too many stories to name. I really didn't know what to expect when I came to the Biggest Little City. I suppose, like many ignorant tourists, I assumed it was a mini-Vegas. It's not. It's better. The trips to Mount Rose; the hikes; and the Truckee River give this city so much flavor. All I wanted to do was add to it. I hope I was able to accomplish that during my nearly half-decade in Reno. I want to thank all of you, the viewers: the good; the bad; and the inspiring. All of your feedback, comments, criticism (constructive and not) and conversation have shaped me into the loquacious and comfortable sportscaster I have become. I also want to thank Josh Little, our sports director. Josh is the hardest working person you'll ever meet and I hope you appreciate his efforts as much as I do. Additionally, without his generosity and faith, I never would've gotten the opportunity to pursue my passion in sports. It's been a fantastic ride, but my goal has always been to return to my hometown and now, I will get that chance. I will be moving back to the Bay Area where I will continue my work as a sports producer/shooter/writer and fill-in anchor. Everyone talks about getting a shot at their dream and soon I will be living mine. Thank you all for making the ride as enjoyable as I hope the destination will soon be. Your friend, Daniel |
