The University of Oregon sure seems to think so. Reports that the Ducks are even considering re-instating LaGarrette Blount are absurd.

Just to catch you up, Oregon coach Chip Kelly told the media on Friday he is considering letting Blount back on the team, but not before November 7th.

Blount, who was last seen sucker punching Boise State's Byron Hout following a postgame taunt, was supposed to be suspended for the remainder of his senior season. Then something funny happened. The Ducks won three straight games including two impressive showings against ranked opponents. That coupled with losses by front-runners USC and Cal opened a seemingly closed door to a berth in the Rose Bowl.

Suddenly, Oregon, the same school, which earned high marks for pulling the plug on its star player for embarrassing the University had a change of heart. How convenient. In less than a month, LaGarrette Blount was a changed man. Now, a father, who regretted going Ron Artest into the Boise stands.

Make no mistake, I am all for second chances, but I have a hard time believing that is the reason for Oregon's change of heart. This smells like a program more concerned about making a run at a BCS bowl, which will in turn put more money into the athletic department, and ultimately the school. If athletic director Mike Bellotti really believed Blount deserved a second chance, he should have suspended him conditionally for a month at the time of the incident and given him the chance to prove he was worthy of playing for a respectable program.

Oregon earned a lot of respect by disciplining Blount right off the bat, instead of waiting for the Pac-10 . I, for one was very impressed. Now, I find myself very disgusted.
