Hey everybody, and welcome to my new blog, which I've so shrewdly called "Daniel's Channel." Initially, I thought about calling it "Dan" something since that rhymes with just about everything, but I decided to think outside of the box. What can I say? I guess sometimes I even impress myself. My blog will feature rants about everything and nothing, typically without anything even resembling the slightest bit of continuity. Kinda like a bad "Seinfeld" episode, but probably not as entertaining. I guess I'll start with who I am. i moved to Reno three months ago from Bend, Oregon where I had spent the previous nine months. I'm definitely at a point in my career where I've been moving around a ton, which is one of many reasons why I want to stay here for the foreseeable future. Reno is the third place I've called home in the past year. I'm originally from the Bay Area. Yes, I am one of the thousands of California transplants living here. The good news is that while I might drive a little bit like it, I like to think that I'm not your stereotypical Californian. I have to say that I consider it a real privilege to live so close to home. My friends and family are very close by and my little dog Gonzo is also helping me adjust to my new surroundings. I picked up Gonzo - a little miniature schnauzer - at the local humane society. Hopefully, you've seen "Anchorman" a ridiculously funny movie. The reason I mention it is because Gonzo looks a lot like Baxter, except he doesn't wear braces or tv news pajamas. Aside from jumping on me in the morning; occasionally hosing down my bed; and systematically destroying each pair of shoes I own, I'd say he's been a nice addition. I named my dog Gonzo because of "Gonzo Journalism;" the famous (or infamous depending on who you ask) media madness conjured up by Hunter S. Thompson. I consider Thompson a hero, not because of his hedonistic lifestyle, but rather his brilliance. A lot of our recent popular culture labels Thompson as a party animal and little else. I strongly urge you to pick up one of his books sometime and decide for yourself. I don't think any journalist should ever inject themselves into a story to the point where they become one of the main characters. Thompson not only made it work, but he flourished with it. Hopefully, these six tidy paragraphs of incoherent idiocy will entice you to return to "Daniel's Channel" sometime. I want to let you all know that I'm open to discussing just about everything here (within reason). If you ever see me wandering around sometime, be sure to say hello. Mahalo. |
