And I love food too. Food! Food! Food! No but seriously, I really do love food. Eating is one of my favorite things in the world! I was just talking about this very subject earlier tonight...and how being a food critic would probably be just about the best job ever. You could eat amazing food all the time and people would go out of their way to make sure you had a great restaurant experience. Growing up in Napa, I will admit, I am somewhat of a food snob. (Don't be confused though, I am not too much of a snob. I say this as I sip on a glass of Two Buck Chuck!) My stepdad was a pastry chef before he married my mom, so needless to say, we ate well as kids. I have tried some pretty great restaurants in Reno lately. I went to Cafe de Thai on Longley last Saturday. I was pleasantly surprised. Great food...but if you're looking for the traditional Thai experience, go to Bangkok Thai on Mount Rose Street instead. It is much more basic and moderately priced. Cafe de Thai is very posh and modern and has a big city atmosphere. You almost forget you're in Reno when you are in there. I had the Panaang Chicken. (Sorry if I spelled that wrong.) It was served family-style, like all their dishes so you can share. We also got the filet mignon with lobster curry dish. It was good, but the Panaang was definitely better. Also, filet and lobster steer a little too far off the traditional thai map for my taste. It felt too fancy! Oh and I almost forgot, we had the lettuce wraps as an appetizer...they were the best part of the whole meal! They came with three dipping sauces and the chile lime one was to die for! Overall, I would say this restaurant would be perfect for a first...or second date. It's a little fancy and impressive, but it's still low key enough that you could forget your manners for a second and no one would notice. :) I am going to Fourth Street Bistro on Thursday. I am stoked because I keep hearing how great it is and finally am getting the chance to eat there! Have any suggestions on what to order? I have heard the scallops are great--most of the time. I might have to see for myself. |
