Let's talk about poop, dog poop that is.

My blog is about my dog. They said to pick something you're interested in....well, to be honest...ever since I brought little "Moo" home in March, she's been a HUGE part of my life. It's like practice for the real responsibility of having kids...except most kids don't eat their own poop and dig in your laundry for dirty undies!  Moo is quite a handful. She's a 10 month old Boston Terrier with a crazy looking crooked tail and just about the cutest pink tummy I have ever seen. Here's a few pictures of her to prove it.

There she is in her Jazzercize gear...

and again in what I like to call "Beast Mode"...

and here we are together, atop Mount Diablo, on our very  best behavior.

I want to talk about "dog stuff" here. I am not a native of Reno, but I've lived here nearly a year now and I have learned just how dog-friendly Reno is. I am a big fan of the Sparks Marina in the summer, but now it's dark by the time I get off work so I usually go to Plumas Park instead. It's not actually a dog park but I take her off the leash there too...along with the rest of the dog owners in the old southwest neighborhood.  I believe in being a responsible pet owner...a.k.a pick up your dog's poop!!! I always do...with exceptions, such as:

1) I am hiking in the woods somewhere and she goes off the beaten path and in order for me to pick it up, I would risk getting poison oak or being bitten by a poisonous and deadly snake....or it's just too far to get to...and I'm lazy...and tired from all the hiking.

2) I just completely spaced bringing a poop bag...that's when I play dumb and kind of look the other way and whistle while she's taking care of business. Shhhhh....don't share my secret. You know you do it too.

I have so many things I could rant about when it comes to dogs and "dog people" here in Reno...like those people that bring their psychotic, aggressive dogs to the park that want to kill everything that moves...or that dog with the really weird eyes that just isn't that cute but the owner sure seems to think so...or the Great Dane that once humped my leg  for like 45 minutes...yeah I wasn't too keen on that...but at the same time...IT'S A DOG! That's what dogs do. They eat, they poop, they hump...and then, when you think you just can't stand one more second...they lick your face and give you those puppy dog eyes you can't resist. That's when you remember why you have a dog in the first place...they love you unconditionally, even when nothing else in life seems to be working out.

On that note, this doesn't have to just be reserved for dog talk.  I myself and human so I always enjoy human topics. :) I'd love to hear advice about getting to know this area I am still fairly new to...or some great story idea you'd like to share...or if you just want to vent about anything...I'd love to hear it.  Even if you just want to tell me how cute...or ugly my dog is...come on, bring it on. Looking forward to chatting. -Auburn

what to do about neighbors who let their dogs poop on your lawn?

I liked your story about your Boston Terrier. I have one that is 21/5 years old. Boy is he a live wire.He is so cute but he can really get on my nerves. People who own dogs need to be responceble for them in every way.Mine when I get home fgrom work will get just as close as he can and not give me much room. Her's to the Boston owners.

I wish that others had taken you up on this great subject! I don't think enough dog lovers love their dogs enough to pick up after them. My neighbors don't know how fortunate they are to live where small dogs are allowed! But, they ignore the rules about cleaning up. I have a service dog and I would feel horrible if I did not clean up after her, but I hear others saying, "Oh, Fifi is so little it doesn't matter." I'm here to tell all of you - even a spoonful of Fifi's poop is too much to track into my apartment! I like to go out on the lawn with my dog, but it's like avoiding land mines because owner's really don't care enough to be responsible and clean up! It's a good way to recycle your grocery bags. Or, if you forget bags, get those bag carriers that clip to your leash. Auburn, your dog is so CUTE!! Whole Dog Journal is a great mag to learn about dog care and many Yahoo! groups. http://shaunaru.bravehost.com/mygirl.html http://www.dogster.com/dogs/401894
