LAS VEGAS (AP) - The Clark County district attorney fended off a
former judge, and the region's top cop easily won re-election after
law-and-order campaigns against lesser-known challengers.
Las Vegas-area voters gave Republican District Attorney David
Roger a third term with a 52 percent to 48 percent victory Tuesday
over Democrat Don Chairez.
Doug Gillespie won a second term, 65 percent to 35 percent over
Las Vegas police Officer Laurie Bisch in the nonpartisan sheriff's
race.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal noted that Bisch and Chairez tried
to capitalize on a recent spate of officer-involved shootings and
public discontent with the process of coroner's inquest reviews of
police slayings.
Chairez also launched an ad linking contributions to Roger to a
plea deal in a recent cocaine possession case against socialite
Paris Hilton.
